Beaches in North Cyprus

Buying a property in North Cyprus will give you access to all of these fabulous beaches in the Famagusta area. Famagusta is renowned for its long sandy beaches, it is possible to walk for many miles along these beaches and of course some of these areas have restaurants, sunbathing and sports facilities. The following are some of the beaches available for your enjoyment between Famagusta, Salamis and Bogaz. All the beaches are free to use and all slope gently into the sea and are safe for children. A North Cyprus property in the Famagusta area will have all these beaches available to you.

Palm Beach

Palm Beach is the nearest beach to the Old City of Famagusta. The Palm Beach Hotel (now known as the Arkin Palm Beach Hotel) is found on this beach. Soft sand and shallow waters sweep around the bay which is remarkable as it is next to the city of Varosha (Maras) which is now opening up. Turtles have been observed from this beach early in the morning. There are restaurants and sports facilities.

Glapsides Beach

About 4km north out of Famagusta is a sign for Glapsides Beach. This public beach one of the busiest in the area. It is a long and sandy beach with shallow water. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, mini market, showers, sun loungers and dolphin rides. The beach is popular with young people.

Bediz Beach

Well signposted from every direction Bediz public beach makes a popular and pleasant stop for those who have walked around the extensive ruins at Salamis. It is a pleasant sandy strip with a restaurant, showers, sun loungers and umbrellas. The beach is served by the Bediz restaurant.

Silver Beach

Silver Beach is another that is popular with visitors to the Ancient Salamis ruins and about 8km north out of Famagusta itself. There is a sandy beach that shelves gently in to the sea, making it very safe for children with a splendid beach cafe. A reef encloses a small lagoon. Those who enjoy snorkelling can investigate the ruins of the submerged buildings.

Salamis Beach

Further on from Bediz Beach on the next stretch of coastline you will find the Koca Reis Beach and the Salamis Hotel Beach.  This is also a very popular beach with two beach cafes located on the beach front.  Sun loungers are available.  Banana Ride and peddle boats and jet skies for hire

Long Beach

Long Beach has become one of the most popular Northern Cyprus beaches famous for its unique golden sand, its long coast and its crystal clear sea.  In the last few years, the local council has invested heavily in this area and Long Beach now has new seating and recreational areas, an open air theatre, a performance and concert area, bicycle paths, open air sports grounds, pedestrian ways and a choice of restaurants.  Due to the success of this development there are now a number of new apartment blocks which add to the choice of properties in North Cyprus.

Bogaz Harbour Beach

Bogaz is a truly beautiful coastal village. An old fishing town, local fishermen carry their trade as they have for centuries to the small fishing harbour. Bogaz has an unmistakably unique atmosphere and you can relax here on the beach area alongside the many fish restaurants.

Beaches in the Karpas Area

If you want a property in North Cyprus that is in a very quiet area, then Karpas is the place for you.

Bafra Beach

About 9km beyond the resort of Bogaz and just beyond the village of Mehmetcik you will find the beaches of Bafra. There are now two large luxury hotels, with excellent beach facilities.

Nangomi Beach (Golden Beach)

One of the most spectacular beaches in Northern Cyprus is virtually at the tip of the Eastern Karpaz Peninsula.   Known as Golden Beach (although the official name is Nangomi), it’s a beautiful, longstretch of pristine orange-brown sand that arcs along the coastline for about five kilometres. The beach is speckled with dark green bushes, and flanked to the north by scrubby dunes.  The tip of the peninsula is a protected area, and wild donkeys roam freely. The beach is also a nesting ground for sea turtles both green and loggerhead.

Kyrenia Beaches

Unlike Famagusta, Kyrenia is not blessed with miles and miles of sandy beaches. However, for anyone owning a North Cyprus property in Kyrenia or the surrounding areas there is still a good choice of sandy beaches.

Escape Beach – Alsancak

Escape Beach is probably the most popular beach in Kyrenia Northern Cyprus. This is due to the fact that it is sandy beach with excellent facilities, local to Kyrenia. There are water sports available with jet skis, parasailing, wind surfing snorkelling and boat trips. This is the only beach in North Cyprus that charges an entry fee.

Guzelyali beach-Karsiyaka

A public beach about 15km outside, to the west of Kyrenia. This is a  long beach with both sandy and stony areas. There are a selection of restaurants on the beach and they provide great food and fantastic scenery. This beach is also popular with turtles and in the turtle season you can witness the baby turtles taking their first steps to the water.

 Alagadi Beach

Situated 12km to the East of Kyrenia is Turtle (Alagadı) Beach which is famous for its Turtles. Being one of the most important beaches for turtles in the Mediterranean. Alagadi beach is protected from May to October. It is a great beach to visit with its sandy beaches and beach side restaurant.
