In its strictest sense a villa is a luxury house set in its own land. However, construction companies and estate agents use the term more loosely referring to a villa as a house with or without a swimming pool and but usually on its own land, or shared land on a housing complex. Simply put the word villa is more appealing to a customer looking to purchase a property in North Cyprus than the words house or home.

It is a dream of many people in the UK especially during the damp winter months to have a villa to live in full time or available for holidays. I know I have lived that dream and it is great.

So, what are the options?

A private villa on its own land with or without a swimming pool. Your own private swimming pool can give you and your family and friends many hours of happiness, but there are running costs which must not be forgotten. If you want to rent your villa out then a villa with a swimming pool is essential. Your options are to buy some land and design your own villa or to buy an already built villa either by a construction company or as a resale.

A decision also has to be made on the whether to buy a standalone villa or a villa on a complex. A villa on a complex has the advantage of security, shared swimming pool and expenses, and you know what your surroundings will be. In contrast a stand alone villa has the advantage of privacy, but often means that if there is any empty land around you then you may be disturbed by building work in the future .

My overall advice is that if you are considering only to come to North Cyprus for holidays then it may be wiser and less hassle to buy an apartment on an established holiday complex.
